Residental FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Residental Pest management

What can you do to assist with the smooth execution of your pest control? (pre-engagement)

Clean and tidy up, remove shoes and stored articles from bottoms of wardrobes, expose as much skirting board area as possible by pulling light
items of furniture and belongings away from walls. Remove any washing from your clothesline.

We will need access to your manhole cover (if applicable)

Put food away, also toothbrushes. Plates and cutlery should not be left out, if they are, please cover with tea towels.

Fish, hermit crabs and the likes need to be covered, aquarium pumps turned off if possible. Ponds with fish will be OK as we will avoid them, but their locality will not get treated to the same standard as the rest of the house. We will need to avoid aviary birds also, so please talk to us about these and any other pets you may have.

Once dried, our chemicals won’t harm your dog or cat, but please invert or remove their food bowls. We love animals! Talk to us about working around them. We understand they are part of your family too and need to be considered.

Do we have to leave the house?

Ideally yes. (We can work out an alternative plan for the house-bound). We are quite used to being left to get on with it and locking up behind ourselves or whatever arrangement suits you best. If you decide that you don’t want to leave, then you stay at your own risk. The chemicals are very safe, we are more concerned with slipping on a damp surface or walking into a step ladder than any risk from the chemical itself, however common sense dictates that we all follow WHS guidelines such as those of the chemical label, and play it safe!

IMPORTANT NOTE: There can be no compromise regarding working around small children, they must leave until the chemical is dry or as advised on the day.

When can I get the work done?

We are happy to carry out work Monday to Friday 7:30 to 5:30 but can be flexible and may be able to fit in a weekend appointment if all else fails to suit you. There may be an additional charge for this. Please not that if we start a pest spray late in the day you may not be able to re-enter for a couple of hours or until dry, so this is worth bearing in mind particularly with children.

How long will it take?

Obviously, it depends on how big your property is. Pergolas and outbuildings take up time, specific problems such as cockroaches in the kitchen need special attention for example. On average, it takes about an hour for a 4 bedroom single storey house.

What about an emergency?

Few pest problems constitute an emergency but we appreciate that some people have phobias of mice and spiders, and a sudden invasion of bees or wasps (breaking through plasterboard) can be dangerous. We will take your call at any time and respond as quickly as possible.

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING BEES: Bee swarms can turn up without warning containing huge numbers of bees. Often, they will leave again just as quickly. Bees in these swarms are gorged with honey and are generally very placid and not aggressive. If they are hanging in a bush in a massive clump, just leave them and they will eventually leave. Bees that do establish themselves in a building generally cannot be collected and must be killed (we hate having to do this but there may be no choice)

IF you think it may be possible to harvest the bees, please call Eric on 0414501578 and he will safely collect them free of charge! You may also like to contact Canberra Bee Keepers association on 61826180 who will help you if Eric is unavailable.

What do I need to tell you?

The more information you give us, the better we can treat your property for specific pests. For example, if you have carpet beetles (or suspect you may) we will need to allocate more time to the job. Maybe you have seen white tail spiders? We tailor our treatment slightly in this event. Talk to us! We like to listen.
